Uduak Abasi Clinic Abak is a Private owned Hospital/Clinic by Full Gospel Church of God in Abak local government area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

BACKGROUND

In 1978 Bishop SE and Muriel Joyce Arnold Arnold built the Uduak Abasi Clinic. Muriel Joyce, a UK trained Registered Nurse and Certified Midwife administered the clinic, trained her staff, and registered the Clinic with Nigeria Ministry of Health.

The idea of building a Clinic was born out of a sheer visible need for compassion and physical care if the poor and needy in Nigeria. While much time was pent preaching and teaching the Word of God, people were still dying from treatable tropical diseases. Their finances were not enough to admit them to the surrounding hospitals and people who were turned away went have and died. Children were missing classes at school because of fevers, worms and a variety of diseases.

"For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me." Matthew 25:35-36 (KJV)

This scripture was more of a reality and compassion would not allow us to close our eyes to the sick and suffering. Hospital furnishings were made locally with the supervision of Muriel Joyce. An operating table and theater furnishings were made and met the needs 37 years ago and are still being used today. These need to be upgraded and in some cases replaced.

CURRENT PROJECT

SMAAF is committed to help the repair of the clinic which started out with five beds and has now developed to 36 beds.

Here is a list of upgrades needed in the Clinic:

  • The laboratory needs upgrading

  • The X-Ray unit needs repair

  • The interior of the operating theater needs to be excavated and the walls and floors replaced

  • The make-shift operating table and theater lamps need to be replaced

  • The maternity ward, funded but he Church of God, needs to be repaired and re-furnished

  • The Clinic needs its own water supply and overhead storage tents

Thousands of patients have passed through the Uduak Abasi Clnic and have received exceptional care. The Church and communities and well as other states have benefited from the Care and Compassion they have received. Expatriates from the United Kingdom, United States, South Africa and Canada have been recipients of the good care offered.

SMAAF envisions improving and further developing the Usual Abasi Clinic that health and well-being can be enjoyed but the people of Akwa Ibom and other states that were once raised by the brutal Civil War.
